THE COLDEST PLACE IN EARTH

The Arctic region is covered with snow and ice for almost the whole year. The temperature in the middle of the winter can go down to -60˚ F. (-51˚ C). When it gets this cold frost forms on eyebrows and eyelashes. It is colder than inside a freezer.

The areas where Eskimos live are covered by snow and ice most of the year. When they hunt in cold weather they wear clothes made out of caribou hide and sealskin. In the past Eskimos were nomads who lived in igloos made of snow in winter and tents in summer. Now most live in one place all year.

WARM CLOTHES TO WEAR

What animals do Eskimos hunt?
When Eskimos kill animals they use the meat for food, the fat for fuel and the hide for clothes.
Whale, Walrus, Seal, Salmon, Hare, Duck, Ptarmigan

FYI: Much of Alaska is covered with snow and ice. That means that it is hard to get fresh vegetables. The Eskimos include raw meat in their diet so that they can get enough vitamins.
